Charles E. "Charlie" Stern

Charles E. Stern, 73, of Fleetwood, passed away on Sunday morning, March 8, 2015 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Born January 17, 1942 in Richmond Township, Charles was a son of the late Elsie (Miller) and Charles F. Stern. He and his wife, Irene M. (Reinert) Stern, were married on June 30, 1979 at Huff's Church, Alburtis and celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary in 2014.

Charles was employed by the Borough of Fleetwood for over 35 years working as a heavy equipment operator. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Dryville and attended Kutztown High School. Charles was a member of the Grizzly Guzzlers, Fleetwood and the Kutztown Rod & Gun Club and enjoyed going to auctions and sales as well as collecting brass, aluminum and copper. He was also an avid fan of drag racing.

Charles is survived by his wife, Irene, Charles is survived by his two sons, Joel S. Stern, Hamburg, and Charles B. Stern, husband of Sarah A. (Allard) Stern, Topton. He is also survived by his brothers, Daniel Stern, husband of Linda (Phillips) Stern, Fleetwood, Barry Stern, husband of Sherry (Gilbert) Stern, Laureldale and his sisters, Joan (Stern) Acker, wife of Terry Acker, Alabama and Barbara (Stern) Dietrich, wife of John Dietrich, Kempton.

In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley (Stern) Dreibelbis.

A Memorial Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 12, 2015 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Walbert Funeral Home & Cremation Services, PC, 14390 Kutztown Road, Fleetwood, PA 19522. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718.
