Mrs. Dorothea "Dottie" (Barris) Tillman

November 13, 1943 — December 9, 2023

Dorothea (Dottie/Nonnie) Barris Tillman passed peacefully on December 9, 2023. Born in Newark, NJ, in 1943, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Alice Barris.

Beloved wife to Ed, mother to Cheri and Jackie, mother-in-law to Eric and Frank, nonnie to Niko, Jovina and Anjolena, friend to more than can possibly be named here. She was preceded in death by her brother, Joseph, and her sister, Beverly, who died in early childhood.

Dottie holds a degree in Interior Design from the College of Interior and Fine Arts and along with numerous other jobs she exceled at, all while being a full-time mother, she started/shared/grew a cleaning business with her husband for over 50 years. Her degree shows her creative nature and she continued to enjoy photography, writing poetry, painting and inventing things. Dottie was the author of a children's book, Ripple the Worm, His Friends & Sunshine Thoughts, was Chairman of Project Fund at Hope Community Church, and was the inventor of "Palm-Dri", a sports wristband for which she obtained a patent.  She loved Jesus Christ and was involved in many churches over the years. Her grandchildren were the light of her life.

Those are things she enjoyed and loved, but all who met her loved and admired her for so many reasons. At the top of the list...caring, strength and positivity. She was always there with a meal, with a card, with a call, with support. She was strong, so strong. She survived so much, she fought and fought and fought every single day for years, but through all her suffering, she stayed positive, knowing that God had a plan for her, and all was in his hands. Through her struggles, she continued to care about and for everyone else before herself.
