Mrs. Erma F. (Reinert) Gruber

Mrs. Erma F. (Reinert) Gruber, 92, of Topton, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, went home to be with her Lord on Monday, October 5, 2026, at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, PA.

Born February 20, 1934, in Longswamp Township, she was the daughter of the late Irvin and Ellen (Miller) Reinert. Her husband of almost 58 years, Gordon G. Gruber, passed away on February 5, 2011.

Erma attended the Longswamp School and, even when she was young, helped folks by cleaning and caring for them at their homes. She went on to work at Royal Manufacturing on the line and in pressing, and also was a proud Avon Lady for over 40 years. Erma loved working on the family farm with Gordon, and enjoyed picking tomatoes. She also tended to the roadside stand at their home.

Erma was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Kutztown, and attended Zion's Church, Windsor Castle. She was a member of the Kutztown Grange and loved cooking, cleaning, baking, doing word searches and watching Uncle Jeffrey on CWTAP. Most of all, Erma was blessed with many family and friends and loved hosting and entertaining them. She also loved celebrating the Pennsylvania Dutch tradition of New Year's Wishers led by her treasured friends Michael and Linda Hertzog. She was generous, selfless, and thoughtful and she will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Erma is survived by her three daughters, Cynthia K. (Gruber) Schlegel, wife of David L. Schlegel, Pottsville, Pollyanna G. (Gruber) Hartman, wife of Bruce N. Hartman, Hamburg, and Kathy L. Karpeuk, and Gregory Karpeuk, Reading. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Matthew G. Schlegel, husband of Kelly A. (Hoch) Schlegel, Rachel E. (Hartman) Gatley, wife of Dave P. Gatley, Tiffany N. (Hartman) Melcher, wife of Bob W. Melcher, Paige E. (Hartman) Wink, wife of Troy A. Wink, Jr., Logan B. Hartman, husband of Sarah C. Williams Hartman, Douglas J. Karpeuk, and his girlfriend Lindsay N. Moffett, and Delaney J. (Karpeuk) Koenig, wife of Zachary W. Koenig, her great-grandchildren, Grant, Lexi, Aubrey, Teagan, Ezekiel, Matilda, Robert IV, Gordon, Nora, Khaleesi, Indie, Eleven and Wednesday, by her brother, Harold Reinert, Kutztown, and by many nieces and nephews, whom she adored.

Along with her parents and her husband, Gordon, Erma was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, Esta Greiss, Jonathan Reinert, Charles Reinert, Helen Moyer, Mabel Weigle, Verna Frey, Arthur Reinert, Russel Reinert, Ralph Reinert, Gertie Reinert and Raymond Reinert.

Funeral Services for Erma will be held on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, at 11:00 am at Walbert Funeral Home & Crematory, 14390 Kutztown Rd, Fleetwood, PA. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery, Kutztown.

A viewing for Erma will be held on Tuesday from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at the funeral home.
