Mrs. Joy E. (Strunk) Richard

Mrs. Joy E. Richard, 73, of Oley, passed away on Saturday, July 23, 2022, at Tower Health, Reading Hospital, West Reading, PA.

Born February 6, 1949 in Amity Township, she was the daughter of the late Elaine E. (Freeman) and Harold J Strunk. She and the love of her life, her husband of 53 years, Robert L. Richard, were married at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, Spangsville, on August 17, 1968.

Joy graduated from Oley Valley High School in 1967, where she was a member of the National Honor Society. She attended Mansfield University and Kutztown University majoring in home economics and elementary education.

Joy began working in 1991 for Boscov's Department Stores as an assistant buyer for their fine jewelry department. She later worked as a District Sewing Teacher for the Singer Sewing Company where she trained sewing teachers in southeastern Pennsylvania.

Joy and Robert and their family owned and operated the Sunnydale Farm, Oley, from 1984 until 2007. She enjoyed sewing, crafting, gardening and cooking. She truly loved entering her many items in county fairs in Berks, Lehigh and Lancaster counties. Joy was a member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, Spangsville, for over 50 years and served on the Election Board of Oley Township, Precinct 2, for over 11 years.

Joy's family would like to thank the Reading Hospital staff for their exceptional and loving care of Joy.

Surviving in addition to her husband, Robert, are her two children, Andrew L. Richard, fiancé of Beth Kabatt, Earl Township, and Heather Joy (Richard) Cureau, wife of Gil Cureau, York County. She is also survived by her brother, Jay H. Strunk, husband of Kathy Strunk, Whitewater, TN and by several nieces and nephews.

Along with her parents, Joy was preceded in death by her brother, Stefan.

Graveside Services for Joy will be held on Friday, July 29, 2022 at 11:00 am at Oley Cemetery, 329 Covered Bridge Road, Oley, with Rev. Mark Brophy officiating.
