Mrs. Mary Ann (George) Allmendinger-Hayes

Mary Ann Allmendinger-Hayes, age 73 of Oley, went home to be with the Lord after a long battle with illness on September 22, 2022.

She was the loving wife of John Edward Hayes who was her soulmate and partner in life for the last 43 years. Mary Ann, or Mrs. A. as many knew her dedicated her life to teaching. She graduated with a Master's in Education from Kutztown College, now Kutztown University, and continued her education studies toward a doctoral degree at Temple University. She was the senior English teacher at Brandywine Heights High School for 35 years, touching the lives of thousands of students, retiring from her position in 2006. She was also an adjunct professor at Alvernia College teaching English studies in the non-traditional student tract for over 20 years and finishing her teaching career at the Reading Hospital School of Nursing.

Mary Ann was an avid reader who was involved in many local author and book groups, lover of the arts and music, serving on the EPAC Board of Directors and a season subscriber at places like the Lancaster Symphony & the Fulton Theater, served on consistory in her church, and was an active knitter, completely many of the confirmation stoles and prayers shawls as part of her church's prayer shawl outreach program.

Mary Ann aspired for years to be an author, and finally, in retirement, she completed that goal after publishing six children's books. During her tenure at Brandywine, she created the annual Shakespeare Festival, as her first love in reading was always British Literature.

As Mary Ann enters the Kingdom of God, she leaves behind her husband John, her son, Karl Allmendinger of West Lawn, PA and his children Tristan and Grace, and her daughter, Heidi Orth, wife of Brian Richard Orth, Jr. of Blandon, PA and their children Kamille and Noah.

Memorial Services for Mary Ann will be held on Saturday, October 8, 2022 at 11:00 am at Walbert Funeral Home & Crematory, 14390 Kutztown Road, Fleetwood. A visitation will be held on Saturday, October 8, 2022 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at the funeral home.
