Nevin L. Posey, 78, of Fleetwood, passed away, surrounded by his loving family, on Wednesday, April 22, 2026 at Reading Hospital, West Reading, PA.
Born August 19, 1947, in Lancaster, PA, Nevin was the son of the late Bruce and Freida (Groff) Posey. He and his wife of 33 years, Danette A. (Balog) Posey, were married on February 26, 1994 at their home.
Nevin was a graduate of Red Lion High School where he was on the football team with the longest winning streak in school history. He continued his education and athletic pursuits at East Stroudsburg University, earning his bachelor's degree, followed by his master's in education at West Virginia University.
Nevin began his professional career teaching at Aldan Elementary School in Lansdale before making the transition to Kutztown University, as a professor and head coach for the wrestling team. During his tenure as the wrestling coach (1977-1984), he led his teams to an overall coaching record of 59-45-2. His teaching included classes in Kinesiology, Exercise Science and the Science of Movement, all of which he was proud to talk about until his final days. Prior to his time at Kutztown University, Nevin was also part of Villanova University's Football coaching staff from 1970 to 1971.
In addition to education and coaching, Nevin had a passion for golf, to put it lightly. He and his buddies had a tee time most days from April-November, which meant he arrived at the driving range at least an hour prior to warm up. When he would get done golfing, he would relax by playing another round of golf before going home to rest by watching golf on TV. In between his rounds, he was always still teaching and coaching golf, most often to Nettie who soaked up all his lessons, easily becoming the best golfer in the family. Nevin truly loved his family, especially his daughters and grandchildren. He was everyone's biggest supporter and watched countless soccer games and swimming meets, then later with his grandchildren could be found at dance recitals, more soccer, plays and softball games.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Danette, are his two daughters, Courtney L. (Posey) Wagaman, partner of Craig W. Adamson, Topton, and Ashley L. (Posey) Cohen, wife of Jeremy T. Cohen, Phoenixville. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Harlowe, Grant, Ophelia and Madigan, by his brothers and sisters, Cathie Goulding, Pamela Snyder, wife of Richard Snyder, Trudi Posey, wife of Bob Zanfini, and David Posey, husband of Robin Posey, and nieces and nephews.
Memorial Services for Nevin will be held on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at 11:00 am at Walbert Funeral Home & Crematory, 14390 Kutztown Rd, Fleetwood. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at the funeral home.
