Gail (Murray) Shapiro

May 6, 1939 — May 16, 2020

Gail (Murray) Shapiro, 81, of Seminole, FL, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 16, 2020 in Largo, FL.

Born May 6, 1939, in Emerson, New Jersey, she was the daughter of the late Ann (Stewart) and John Murray.

Gail graduated from Bogota High School in New Jersey before attending Modeling School in New York. Gail became a professional model in New York and was known for her “Perfect Size 7” figure. She modeled the 1st electric toothbrush in an advertisement for Macy’s.

Gail attended business college where she received a degree in secretarial studies. She worked as a secretary for E.R. Squibb & Sons, East Brunswick, NJ for many years. After her move to Florida, Gail worked as an executive secretary before taking on the greatest job of her life, becoming a Mother. While spending time as a homemaker, Gail enjoyed knitting baby booties, mittens and hats that she donated to local hospitals.

Those who knew Gail know that she was a fiery woman. She loved to laugh and never gave up in life. She loved fashion and home design, knitting, sewing, shopping, doing arts & crafts and playing bingo. Gail was a huge college football fan and especially loved her Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the Florida Gators. Gail enjoyed watching NASCAR and would love to take road trips, even up to two hours away, just to go out to eat. More than anything, Gail loved spending time with her family.

Gail is survived by her daughter, Jacquelyn A. (Shapiro) Duchala, wife of Andrew S. Duchala, Largo and her grandson, Shane K. Duchala.

In addition to her parents, Gail was preceded in death by her 11 brothers and sisters.

Due to the current situation, services for Gail will be held privately for her family.
