Sofia (Guzman) Santiago

Sofia (Guzman) Santiago, 91, of Sinking Spring, passed away, surrounded by her loving family, on Wednesday, October 18, 2023 at her home.

Born April 30, 1932, in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, Sofia was the daughter of the late Maria Vega-Garcia and Benito Guzman-Petrovich. Her two husbands, Rev. Prudencio E. Garcia, and Pedro Santiago, preceded her in death.

Sofia worked very hard in life, including in housekeeping at Lighting by Gregory, in New York, but none more important than being the matriarch of her family. Sofia truly enjoyed raising her 16 children, and caring for them and her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She was very faithful in her church and enjoyed singing, writing songs and walking.

Sofia is survived by eight children, Nehemiah Garcia, Reading, Sophia Garcia, Manhattan, NY, Julia Garcia, Puerto Rico, Joel Garcia Sr., husband of Aida (Rodriguez) Garcia, Reading, Damaris Melendez, wife of Manuel Melendez, West Reading, Rosa Garcia, Reading, Elizabeth Robles, wife of Roberto Robles, Reading, and Evelyn Moran, wife of José Moran, Reading. She is also survived by her 49 grandchildren, 104 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

Along with her parents and her husbands, Sofia was preceded in death by eight children, Ruben, Samuel, Rosa Maria, Benjamin, David, Joshua, Angel, and Esther, and by 4 grandchildren.

Funeral Services for Sofia will be held privately. Burial will take place in Charles Evans Cemetery, Reading.
